On Friday, April 1, 2011, the House is scheduled to debate and vote on the Appropriation Committee’s proposed state budget for 2012-13, officially the Committee Substitute to House Bill (CSHB) 1. We have prepared a short summary of the top five reasons to reject CSHB 1.

  1. The proposed budget is totally inadequate to protect Texans,
  2. the proposed budget damages our economy in the short term,
  3. the proposed budget damages our economy in the long term,
  4. Legislators shouldn’t approve the bottom line for public education without knowing how much each school district would get, and
  5. Texas has better options.
